Because its postsecret, I'm forced to assume the creator is referring to some sort of horrible abuse, but the image of luggage in the back of a uhaul (look at that patented flat load floor!) reminds me of the mission trip, in a really nice way. I've read about one book a week while working this show at TheatreWorks, which is fairly impressive given that the show itself is less than two hours long. Finished books: Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Ringworld, and a random Asimov-branded sci-fi rag. Next up: Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. Hooray for the little communal library at work.

My booked-up-ness only extends a about 5 weeks from today, and I have 4 days of mostly-unscheduled life in the second week of April as well. I am looking forward to the mission trip like the dickens.

And now, back to hacking. Tah!

I remember being in the Playhouse (shock), during the day, with the ecom. It must have been my sophomore year, as I remember Dave being there. We were sitting on the edge of the stage, and Rick Hartt had brought in some student council types to talk to us for a bit. The house was set up, so we must have had a show open. I wasn't really sure why we were meeting with them at the time, but I suspect that they wondered why Players cost so much money.

We were asked some questions, none of which were memorable, but one of the answers springs to mind any time I pick up a show. Dave was saying that theatre was something he'd always done, and that he always would do, and we were all sort of nodding in agreement. I certainly felt, and feel, that that's true.

But now, five years hence, I think back to that day and all the great stagehands I worked with in college, and how few of them are still working. Just from that ecom, I think only Rick Casey and I have had fairly constant gigs since college. Dave hasn't worked a show since he graduated, Pat has only had a few, Carrie has had two that I recall, and neither of the Adam's have had any (outside the Playhouse, at least). Ben was working shows pretty consistently until he moved to Pennsylvania, but none since he found a girl.

And then here I am, doing eight shows a week for this month with a bunch of people who do this for a living and spending the rest of my time doing my real job, and I can't really blame them. I've been pretty disappointed with the rate that I've made friends while doing post-collegiate theatre; but its still what I do, and I still think it'll remain so in perpetuity.

But I've been wrong before.
